NAME: Olivia
CANON: Granblue Fantasy
CANON POINT: Fate Episode (Post WMTSB 1 — After she infiltrates the main crew.)
AGE: Unknown (2000+)
BACKGROUND: The creation myth of the Skydom/Sky Realm, the setting in which Granblue Fantasy takes place, begins with a singular God and a realm of chaos known as the Crimson Horizon. God established a world of order over the blank canvas of the Crimson Horizon, comprised of countless floating islands. The islands were then populated with life forms (Skydwellers), however these creations eventually rebelled against their creator. The conflict is said to have sundered God into two—one half retreated to the stars and created a separate race called the Astrals, and the other half remained in the skies to rule over the native Skydwellers.
The Astrals eventually crossed over to invade the Sky Realm, and during their reign, they fashioned powerful creatures known as primal beasts to regulate the world. Olivia is one of the first of these primals*, created by the Astral researcher Lucilius. She was designated as one of the 'fallen angels', a separate group assigned to assist Lucilius with his personal research, while the other angels continued to serve as impartial arbiters overseeing the evolution of the Skydom and governing the elements. (*The initial primals were winged, humanoid creatures referred to as angels/archangels, while latter primals were much more varied and often bestial in appearance.)
Lucilius, who was considered unconventional and unsettling even by his fellow Astrals, kept his research strictly secret save from his deputy, Belial. While is not made clear what lies were spread by Belial amongst Lucilius' followers to gain their loyalty, the pair succesfully managed to stir the fallen angels into rebellion against the Astrals. (It's presumed that they capitalized on the Astral's distrust and disdain of the primals, as the angels created by Lucilius in particular were feared for their power and sentience.) It is only revealed sometime after the uprising had been thwarted, that Lucilius' true aim was to harvest the cores (energy source) of the primals en masse via the instigated war, in order to create a monster strong enough with which he would bring ruin to the world.
As one of the rebels, Olivia was sentenced to an eternity in Pandemonium, a sealed prison that exists between the Crimson Horizon and the Sky Realm and described as a bottomless and 'suffocating darkness, where time itself is forgotten'.
Roughly 2000 years later, the seal on Pandemonium is loosened due to a cataclysmic event, and in that opening Olivia manages to project a fragment of herself into the Sky Realm. (In the time she had been imprisoned, the Skydwellers have risen to reclaim the Sky Realm from the Astrals, and all records of the angels had been destroyed and lost. Primal beasts still exist, albeit watered down and weaponized compared to their original predecessors.)
Having been imprisoned without ever discovering Lucilius' betrayal, Olivia still remains loyal to his 'cause', and infiltrates the main party of the present storyline with her corporeal form in order to observe their actions. Her intention is to gather enough intel to eventually free her brethren from Pandemonium.
PERSONALITY: Above all, she is highly pragmatic and cool-tempered, and often comes across as impersonal. Prior to the rebellion, she was given command over dusk and was tasked with defending the skies from nightmares. As an archangel's characteristics and sentience are built around such defined roles, Olivia's thinking is therefore often militaristic and strategic in nature, calculated and cautious though not necessarily callous. She is very much a neutral agent, as angels are typically designed to be, and while she lies and manipulates the main crew to gain their trust, she does it to help the other fallen angels and not out of any malicious intent or personal grudge.
Lies aside, Olivia is very straightforward in her mannerisms and speaks with a sense of decorum, typically amicable and polite (if not slightly archaic) in words and action. She is confident in her skills and has somewhat of a low-key competitive streak, never taking it easy on enemy or comrade. While her loyalties are unfortunately misguided, she is incredibly committed toward her cause, even after 2000 years spent locked up in a celestial pit.
In the context of the modern world, among Skydwellers, she is inexperienced with basic social customs in a way that's practically alien. Despite her dedication to her fellow brethren, she has not experienced camaraderie in the way humans (draph, erune, or other races of the Sky Realms) do, such as the simple act of sharing a meal, or enjoying a beach vacation. (She literally doesn't even know what a swimsuit is.) Her tone can seem distant and a bit haughty, as she consistently refers to Skydwellers as 'children of man', however she approaches new experiences with a healthy dose of curiosity and a willingness to understand. Observation is a favorite hobby of hers, and though she may not always comprehend what the 'hype' is for any given activity, she's relaxed enough to play along, and to her surprise, even enjoy herself from time to time.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
Flight: Olivia has wings which she can materialize/dematerialize at will.
Regeneration: As long as her core remains intact, she can recover from any injury.
Combat: Experienced in war and combat, and specializes in duel-wielding swords which she can also materialize/dematerialize at will.
Dark Magic: Olivia can cast dark elemental spells that deal physical damage to the target.
Dusk: As the archangel of dusk, Olivia can summon a cloud of temporary darkness on command. (The game also suggests that, as dusk marks the end of the day, she has the power to bring a "fitting ending" to any foe, however this will be nerfed.)
MOD NOTE: Olivia's Dusk ability will be slightly altered as follows: instead of affecting time flow, it will affect her body. She'll grow weaker if she holds it up for too long, and the range will be shortened to a half-mile radius at most.
INVENTORY: Swords (x2)
MOONBLESSING: Sanguis
